The “Lingering” Browser! Internet Explorer 8

It’s pretty incredible to watch browser warfare over the past couple of years. Internet Explorer has been the pain in the backside that has kept us web programmers up for hours on end. The reason behind this is because Microsoft is that giant who supports basically every giant company. Big companies are slow to move and being the supplier to all the big companies out there, proper support has to be given. This support in the IT industry is the stability and security of 10 years, as deemed by Microsoft.

What this did to Internet Explorer specifically, was lower the barriers to entry to other quicker and more agile solutions, such as Chrome, Firefox, and Safari. With the growth of the internet, it’s becoming more and more realized that the web is speeding up today’s technology. Solutions can be distributed much more easily, much more quickly, gathering information and “money” from people in a much more efficient process. And as the need for more complex applications of IT via the web increase, the need for browsers to allow this grow. Look at Chrome and Firefox and their 8 – 16 week release cycles.

The lingering browser is Internet Explorer 8. I’ve been blogging that we’ve just gotten rid of Internet Explorer 6 and that we have from 2015 to 2018 for Internet Explorer 7. Internet Explorer 8 could last for an additional 8 or 9 years. IE8 was released with Windows 7, and with IE9 and IE10 now competing at a higher level, it seems that we are stuck with IE8… for some time. Enjoy!
