DoorBot Smart Doorbell and Video Camera

** Update: Be sure to check out iDoorcam Wifi Door Bell that is a compeitor product with a smaller form factor

Just last week, I published an extensive preview of the major new smart locks that are about to hit the market that utilize Bluetooth low energy. Meanwhile, today I happen to find the smart lock’s cousin called DoorBot, which is a battery operated wi-fi video doorbell that connects to your smartphones and tablets. Now you can physically see who is at your door from anywhere.

Scheduled to ship this summer, you can purchase a DoorBot for $189.

Now that you’ll be able to see and interact with people at your front door, even if you’re away from home or indisposed, the DoorBot application that is used to manage the communication is also integrated with Lockitron

I tried installing one of these I had multiple problems with setting it up. It just goes to show, going for the cheapest option is not always the best. In the end I installed an outdoor voip door phone. Hooked it up to a hosted SIP server. We used Asterisk, but you can use Cisco, Broadsoft etc. We ended up paying £350

    Nice read though,
