The rumors are true! After years of speculation, Apple finally revealed the iPad Mini today at the California Theatre in San Jose, California. I can’t help but remember the speech Jobs gave in 2010 about why the world doesn’t need anything smaller than its traditional iPad models, which was always just a smoke screen as many assumed since Apple is known to reduce all their hardware sizes such as their 13″ macbook pro, 11″ macbook air, mac mini, ipod mini and nano, but I digress….
Basically, the new iPad Mini is 2011’s iPad 2, but in the body of a 7.9″ display and much cheaper price tag starting at $329 for their 16GB model.
- Dual-core A5 processor
- 1024×768 resolution at 163ppi (no retina display)
- 7.2mm thin, 308 grams
- Lightning connector
- Facetime HD camera on the front
- 5-megapixel camera on the rear,
- 802.11a/b/g/n Wi-Fi connectivity
- 4G LTE cellular connectivity in some models.
- 10 hours of battery life.
The one fix I wish Apple would make on their iPad line up is to get rid of the physical ‘home’ button. It’s broken on my model and it sucks having to get it repaired all the time.
Apple also decided to reveal their new NEW iPad, which is now their ‘4th’ generation model, just 6 months after they revealed their ‘3rd’ generation model in March 2012. Yes, that’s right… your iPad 3 is now last year’s model this year! Queue commercial, “But I just bought this one!” Meanwhile, everyone who purchased up a new iPad for Christmas this year just to beat the holiday rush will probably be making a B-line to Apple Stores tomorrow to return their state of the art obsolete gifts for a refund just to get the new NEW iPad model.
Pre-orders begin Oct 26 and wifi models ship November 2.
