Secure Resources and Construct Death Star by 2016

Secure resources and funding, and begin construction of a Death Star by 2016.

This is what began as a petition and has already received more than 28k signatures. 25k signatures were required by December 12, 2012 in order for the US Government to consider this bizarre proposal. It seems we have enough people in the world who think building a Death Star would actually be beneficial.

“By focusing our defense resources into a space-superiority platform and weapon system such as a Death Star, the government can spur job creation in the fields of construction, engineering, space exploration, and more, and strengthen our national defense.” – The White House – Petitions

Maybe we can think of this a bit more abstractly. Lets think about the mission to the moon and how many jobs that spurred. How many dreams that created, and how it lifted our nation as we competed against others to reach space and the moon before anyone else. With defense as the major subject of the last decade, maybe we need some form of anti defense space station. In all honest, we just need something, anything, to get our minds all organized and for us all to start building. Maybe that would boost our “Great Recession”.

What ever that is, in what ever manner it is done… let’s not get into all that. But, for the heck of it, lets see what it might take to build a Death Star. In February of this year, Lehigh University actually did a study to determine what that might cost. Based on the current world’s output, it would take an estimated 833,315 years to complete at a cost of $852 quadrillion dollars – or – $852,000,000,000,000,000.

All pretty funny, now we wait and see how and what the White House will do with this petition.
